Police directed to update hardened POs record

LAHORE - To review the crime situation of the province and other issues, a video linked RPO conference was held at Central Police Office on Wednesday under IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera. 

The conference reviewed in detail the crime situation of the province for the last six months and expressed its satisfaction that as compare to the previous year during the period heinous crime reduced specially the murder cases. Terrorism / suicide attacks / sectarian incidents were also reduced this year and the reduction was recorded by 55pc. In 2015, there were 11 cases and in 2016 there were only 5 cases have been registered against these heads. Similarly, in murder the reduced percentage was 5, kidnapping for ransom -61, dacoity / robbery with murder -8, dacoity -36, robbery -20, vehicle snatching -25 and vehicle theft -9 has been recorded.

The conference also finalised the strategy of preventive policing to control the overall crime and particularly against women and children with a view to ensure the 100pc security for children and women in the province.

The IGP directed the field officers to update the record of hardened POs so that their arrest could be ensured. To provide relief to the affectees of out of turn promotion cases, decision of holding departmental promotions, re-fixation of their seniorities and completion of ACRs was also finalized in the conference.

It was also decided that the Elite Police Force will be revamped to improve its performance and standards. The IGP was told by the field officers that Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) has been completed and all posting and transfers are being made through this system. Mushtaq Sukhera said that with the help of this system, we can provide relief to the public by saving their money and time. He directed the field officers to ensure the implementation on all IT projects of the Punjab Police so that through digitized policing we can enter in the modern era.

The conference also reviewed the security arrangements and deployment on the elections of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in detail. The IGP was told that for the protection and security of the 414,141 voters at 828 polling stations established in 30 districts of the Punjab, 11,964 police officers and officials of the department will remain on duty.

These officers / officials will be included 29 SPs, 103 DSPs, 208 Inspectors, 516 Sub-Inspectors, 810 ASIs, 584 HCs, 6609 constable and 2981 police Qaumi Razakars.

SAFE CITY PROJECT: According to the vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif of ‘Safe Punjab’, the Safe Cities Project’s first Punjab Police Integrated Command, Communication and Control Centre (PPIC3) will start working from June 2017 whereas the soft inauguration of this system will be made during the month of Muharram this year. 

These views were expressed by Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, at training and orientation session arranged for the newly-recruited 361 communication specialists and police communication officers including 25 women for this project at Aiwan-e-Iqbal. All senior police officers and Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s officers were present on this occasion.

IGP said the recruitment process of these officers for the Safe City Project was transparent and all hiring was made through NTS on merit. Mushtaq Sukhera said initially at 1600 points of Lahore, 8500 cameras will be installed which directly be controlled by PPIC3 system at Qurban Lines. DIG Operation will be the commander and two officers of SSP rank will be the deputy commander.

The PPO said that through this project all kind of emergency response including Rescue 1122, Ambulance and fire brigade, 15 calls could be directly managed, besides the surveillance of terrorism and other criminal activities in the city.

The communication officer on duty will be authorised to handle all these emergencies received directly to this center and can also dispatched orders to the nearest unit, respectively.

Mushtaq Sukhera stated that through this system the traffic management could be more comfortable as the citizen can adopt their traveling sectors by getting information regarding the traffic situation of various roads.

He added that later on, this Safe Cities project will be introduced in five big cities including Multan, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad. Earlier, the project director of Safe City Project, Akbar Nasir, presented the welcome address. The IGP thanked the British experts for their cooperation.
