LAHORE - Punjab inspector general of police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera yesterday claimed that the crime rate plunged 15 percent across the province this year.
The provincial police chief also said that all perpetrators behind recent criminal incidents in Lahore have been arrested. “Police are utilizing all resources to protect the lives and properties of the people.”
The provincial police officer stated this while talking to reporters after addressing the participants of the two-day media management training workshop held at the central police office. The workshop which concluded Monday was organized by Pakistan Peace Collective, a sub-department of the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Cultural Heritage.
Earlier, IGP Sukhera said that since the police and media are determined to identify and eliminate social evils therefore, collective efforts are needed for public welfare. He said that police officers should provide relevant information to the media in time. He said that it is also responsibility of the media to present both sides of the story to the public.
“This is need of the hour to bridge the gap between police and media and both should work together in this regard with a positive mind and sincerity,” the IGP added. The officer also appreciated Pakistan Peace Collective for their support in re-establishment of the Directorate of Public Relations at the central police office. He said security forces were dealing with so many challenges and it is very important that authentic and timely information must be provided to public through media.
The district and city police officers of 20 districts of the upper Punjab including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, participated in the workshop. Journalists including Katrina Hussain, Tahir Imran Mian, Mahreen Khan and officials of the Pakistan Peace Collective had an interactive session with police officers on the subject of media handling and management. Punjab DIG (Operations) Aamir Zulfikar Khan also spoke on this occasion.
