IGP orders internal inquiry against corrupt police officials

LAHORE: Inspector General Police of Punjab (IGP) Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan ordered the speed-up of internal accountability in all formations of Punjab Police. The IGP also ordered departmental action against officials and officers involved in corruption, misconduct, and carelessness.

Additional Inspector General Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) Manzoor Sarwar Chaudhary issued directions to complete inquiries against such officers in this regard and ensured strict departmental action, acting on which 47 officers and officials have been dismissed from service.

According to details. A departmental inquiry was done against PHP officials involved in corruption. Officials charged with corruption were called in orderly room for further hearing after which Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Headquarters Mehmood ul Hassan issued orders for their dismissal.

Officials dismissed on account of carelessness, misconduct and corruption include 1 Inspector, 7 ASIs (Assistant Superintendents), 2 Head Constables and 37 Constables while 6 other officials were punished according to the severity of their misconduct.

At this occasion, Addl IG PHP Manzoor Sarwar Chaudhary said that there is no place in the police for black sheep who gave a bad name to the entire institution adding that anyone involved in corruption, misconduct or abuse of authority would be routed out. He further said that the department appreciates and encourages dutiful and good officials who are serving the people with honesty and integrity.

He added that crime-free patrolling police will continue to render its services as highway security is a top priority.
