Police retrieve state land, seize weapons from grabbers

SARGODHA: Police Tuesday arrested two members of a land mafia and recovered weapons from their possession.

Addressing a press conference, SP Investigation Malik Imtiaz Mehmood said two members of land mafia including Muhammad Zulfiqar and Muhammad Mazhar of Marri Lak, Tehsil Sargodha, occupied state land in Chak 71/NB Sargodha.

He said Jhaal Chakian police registered case against the accused. Earlier, the accused had tried to occupy state land in Chak 31/NB in Sadr police jurisdiction and a separate case was already registered against them. Police have arrested accused Muhammad Zulfiqar and Muhammad Mazhar and retrieved state land from their possession. Police have also recovered two Kalashnikovs and one shotgun from them.

9.27kg hashish seized: Police Tuesday arrested six accused and recovered narcotics and weapons from them. According to police spokesman, teams of different police stations arrested six accused and recovered 9,270 gram hashish, 60 litre liquor and 5 pistols from them.

The accused are identified as Muhammad Waqas, Muhammad Hashim, Sabir Hussain, Niaz Ali, Muhammad Iqbal and others. Police have registered separate cases against the accused.

DPDC approves 13 schemes: District Planning and Design Committee (DPDC) Tuesday approved 13 new schemes under Punjab Municipal Services Programme (PMSP) with an estimated amount Rs 32.9 million while Rs 107.7 million are being spent on 10 development projects in the district.

It was revealed in a meeting of district planning and design Committee presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Abdullah Nayyer Sheikh. The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioners Sillanwali and Kotmomin Tehsils, Deputy Director Development Shafique Niazi and officers of metropolitan Corporation Sargodha. In a meeting 8 development schemes of tehsil council Sargodha with estimated amount of Rs 19.5 million, one scheme of tehsil Sillanwali worth Rs 4.1 million and four schemes of Tehsil Kotmomin worth 9.2 million were presented before District Planning and Design Committee.

The meeting was told that under Punjab Municipal Services Program Rs 107.3 million are being spent on 10 development projects in the district of which on 24 schemes of Tehsil Council Sargodha Rs72.8 million while Rs 25.3 million are being spent on here development schemes of Tehsil Council Sillanwali. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdullah Nayyer had directed that any negligence and corruption in development works would not be tolerated, adding that the schemes should be completed in given period and constructive work must be durable and standardised.

Woman murdered: A woman was murdered while another injured in separate incidents of firing and torture in Jauhrabad and Bhera police limits.

According to police, Ghulam Muhammad of village Bandial tehsil Jauhrabad used to quarrel with his wife Shamim Bibi over family affairs. On the day of incident, they both exchanged harsh words and in a fit of rage Ghulam Muhammad allegedly shot dead his wife.

DRTA challans 15 vehicles, impose fines: Secretary District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) has Challaned 15 vehicles and imposed fines on the owners of the vehicles over traffic rules ciolations.

The DRTA secretary and other traffic officials checked fitness certificates and other documents of commercial vehicles and impounded three vehicles over incomplete documents and imposed Rs 18,500 fines on the owners of 15 vehicles.
